This committee advises our Federation on human rights matters within our union and assists in upholding our Federation's objectives to ensure equity and inclusiveness in the workplace and is a forum to advise on human rights issues relevant to members.
District 11 Constitution - Terms of Reference - The Committee shall:
- foster and promote the dignity of all persons, regardless of race, ancestry, place of origin, colour, ethnic origin, citizenship, creed, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, family status, and/or physical or mental abilities
- review, advance, and promote OSSTF policies as they relate to all equity seeking groups
- foster and promote human rights, as enshrined in the Ontario Human Rights Code, for all District 11 members
- generate awareness among District 11 members of the issues facing all equity seeking members
- review any TVDSB promotional practices and policies relating to a work environment that does not support equity, inclusion and/or human rights
- create recommendations to bring to the District Executive Council that support District 11 and ensure a more equitable organization when representing and making decisions on behalf of the membership
- provide a forum for any District 11 members to discuss human rights and equity issues
- seek professional development opportunities on equity issues for all District 11 members
- make donation recommendations to District Executive Council to support organizations dedicated to furthering and promoting equity, inclusion, and/or human rights
- create working groups, from within this committee, where necessary to advance equity initiatives requiring further inquiry, support, or attention
